Akira Japanese Restaurant, Alphaland Makati Place

The Promdi Boy Adventures: Creativity x Good Food

I got an invite from one of my mommy bloggers, Mommy Lariza, for a dinner in a newly opened Japenese Restaurant in Makati. It was last Saturday, November 29, when I got to know Akira, The Art of Sushi and Teppanyaki.

Akira is a Japanese restaurant started operating in the Philippines last 2013 with its first branch in EDSA Shangri-La Plaza and now with its new branch in Alphaland Makati Place.

The Promdi Boy tip for commuters:
To get there, you can ride a bus going to LRT-Ayala Leveriza and tell the conductor to drop you off at The Columns. From there, you can walk going to Alphaland Makati. It’s beside RCBC Tower and parallel to Makati Fire Station. Akira is located at the 1st level of the building.

The Place:
When I entered the restaurant, I immediately feel the Japanese mood with a touch of Filipino-inspired interiors. During our discussion with Mr. Miguel Dela Rosa, Marketing Head of Golden Potbelly Pig, we found out that this restaurant is designed by Kenneth Cobonpue – a world renowned, multi-awarded, industrial designer known for his signature designs in natural fibers and materials.
Here are some of the restaurant’s highlights:

Yoda Chairs

Kayawan Too Chairs

Wall Art Painting

Another highlight when you dine in a Japanese restaurant is the Teppanyaki show. Akira showcased a fantastic culinary show during our dinner with their Teppanyaki Chef Salvador preparing the food for us. For regular days, they also do the show and you may wish to be at the Teppanyaki table.

The Specialty:
The must-try dishes in this restaurant are the following:

Teppanyaki
(You can order a set or ala carte. Check the prices at the end of this blogpost)

Sushi

Akira is serving different types of Sushi. During our dinner, they served us the Rainbow Roll, Akira California Roll and Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese.

Rainbow Roll (P248.00)

Akira California Roll (P368.00)

Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese (P259.00)

Top 3 Dishes:
Aside from Teppanyaki and Sushi, Akira is also serving different great Japanese cuisines and here are the top 3 dishes that struck me most:

Kani and Pomelo Salad (P248.00)

Pork Tonaktsu (P218.00)

Agedashi Tofu (P148.00)

Other Dishes:
Here are the other good dishes served during our dinner:

Chicken Teriyaki (P288.00)

Seafood Yakuidon (P378.00)

Seafood Ramen (P448.00)

Ice Cream Parfait (P268.00)

Bonus Points:
To those who want to partner their Japanese foods with a sophisticated and elegant taste of wine, Akira is serving Manny O Wines.
